founded Sigma Theta Tau in 1922 to
develop leaders who would improve

the mission of Sigma Theta Tau
International. By fostering scholarly
research, leadership, and service in the

- 446 chapters worldwide
- Of the active members, 60% hold masters or doctorate degrees, 46% are clinicians,
19% are administrators or supervisors, and 20% are educators or researchers
- The name Sigma Theta Tau came from the Greek words: Storge, Tharsos, Time,
meaning "love", "courage", and "honor".
